Starbucks and match.com help Brits espresso their love this Valentine’s Day

published on 11. Feb 2015

In celebration of Valentine’s Day, Starbucks and match.com have teamed up to bring more couples together with a free three-day trial of the country’s largest dating service.

With 71% of Brits already listing their local coffee shop as the perfect first date venue, in early February, Starbucks is making it even easier to look for love by offering customers the chance to register with match.com for free, using in-store free Wi-Fi. Existing match.com members can treat their loved ones to a cake for free when they buy two drinks at Starbucks, valid from 9th – 15th February.

“We are thrilled to partner with match.com this Valentine’s Day,” says Ian Cranna, vp marketing & category, Starbucks EMEA. “It’s a natural fit – match.com are the experts at bringing people together, and for more than 40 years, Starbucks has been a place where people connect over a great cup of coffee. We’ve seen first dates, proposals, weddings, birthdays and reunions – and now, we’ll be able to bring even more people together.”

Kate Taylor, dating and relationship expert at match.com comments, “Britain’s singles are getting hot and steamy about coffee dates, and no wonder! Coffee dates are like the perfect cappuccino: light and frothy, but with the promise of something hotter to follow. And, asking someone out for coffee is easy, relaxed and low-pressure; ideal if you’re feeling shy. So let’s raise a mug to finding love this Valentine’s Day.”

Among current match.com users in the UK, 36% say they prefer enjoying a cup of coffee instead of a cocktail (11%) and 52% would choose Starbucks as their go-to location for that first meeting.

“By partnering with Starbucks, we are offering our members a simple way to enjoy their dates in a cozy and welcoming atmosphere”, says Karl Gregory, UK MD of match.com. “We are pleased that we are able to offer singles the chance to access match.com services at Starbucks for free, enabling them to meet new people online.”

In addition to the partnership with match.com, Starbucks will help people celebrate connections of every kind this Valentine’s Day with a special offer on the Starbucks Triple Hot Chocolate.

On 13th and 14th February it’s buy one, get one free on this limited edition drink when you give your barista a secret password. Look out for the passwords on Starbucks: UK Facebook page and Twitter before the 13th February on www.facebook.com/Starbucks and @StarbucksUK

The Starbucks Triple Hot Chocolate is made with Starbucks Classic Hot Chocolate and white chocolate sauce steamed together. It can be customised with Mocha or White Mocha syrups and is topped with whipped cream and mocha drizzles. The Starbucks Triple Hot Chocolate is available nationwide from 4th – 15th February.

A tall Starbucks Triple Hot Chocolate is £2.90.
