Where’s your Va Va Voom Britain?

published on 24. Feb 2017

Who is the least sexy country in Europe? Brits think they are!

  • Only a third (34 per cent) of Brits believe the idea of having sex outside is a turn-on
  • Dating site Match launches Valentine’s event designed to encourage Brits to be more confident about sex

Britain is being encouraged to be more confident and embrace their inner Va Va Voom after research from Match today revealed Brits consider themselves to be the least sexy in Europe.

The study by the dating site polled singles from across Europe asking them what ranking they would give themselves out of 10 when it comes to feeling sexy. On average Brits gave themselves a miserly score of 4.4, the lowest of all the European countries surveyed. The Dutch and Spanish topped the charts in their self-assurance, rating themselves an average of 5.7 and 5.6 respectively, followed by the Italians (5.2) and French (4.9).

The sexiest feeling countries in Europe

Country Score (out of 10)
1.       Netherlands 5.7
2.       Spain 5.6
3.       Italy 5.2
4.       France 4.9
5.       Germany 4.9
6.       Sweden 4.7
7.       UK 4.4

Brits lack of confidence in their own sex appeal also means they are far less adventurous in their sexual experiences than their French counterparts. When asked about having sex in different locations singles across the channel were consistently seen to be more adventurous than Brits, with 43 per cent saying they find the idea of sex in a park a turn-on. This compared to just a third (34 per cent) of Brits who are reluctant to get too intimate in the great outdoors.

Brits lack of adventure also extends to having sex in a lift, with only 32 per cent saying they find the proposition appealing, compared to half of the French (50 per cent). However, Brits are slightly more adventurous when it comes to cars, with more than half (53 per cent) saying they find the idea of having sex in a car a turn-on. This number pales in comparison to the bold French with almost three quarters (72 per cent) wanting to get intimate in their motor.

In light of the findings, Match is encouraging Brits to embrace French passion with the latest in their series of events; an erotic writing workshop followed by a screening of iconic French film Belle du Jour for free.

The event is designed to help British women more clearly express their sexual desires. Guests will be invited to attend a brand new workshop on sexual fantasy writing from Sexpert Renee from Women’s Erotic Emporium Sh!, before sitting down to enjoy a screening of Belle du Jour. Described as a “surrealist masterpiece” the film is often cited in roundups of the best erotica films of all time, defining a large part of the genre.

The sexual seminar is free for all women and takes place at the Electric Cinema in Notting Hill on Tuesday 7th and Thursday 9th February, from 6pm. To attend the presentation, workshop and screening, women can register at Matcheroticacinema.com. Tickets are available on a first come, first serve basis.

Match dating expert Vicki Pavitt said: “British women have a reputation for being less sexually empowered than their European counterparts and erotica is the perfect way for women to articulate their sexual preferences and become more confident. In France, Erotica is considered an art-form and a way for women to articulate their sexual desires. The ‘De France, avec amour’ screening and workshop celebrates the power of French erotica and has been designed to empower women and make a positive impact on the way women approach love and sex.”
